The beautiful Memo Music Hall welcomed a buoyant crowd on Friday evening to witness the mighty Mi-Sex celebrate an incredible 40 years on the road.
Support was ably provided by Pollyman (George Carroll Wilson [guitar vox], brother Fenn Wilson [drums] and Alister Hull [Bass] ) who all at once both relaxed and warmed up the crowd with a fabulous set of original compositions.
Punters catching this trio for the first time tonight couldn’t fail to have been suitably impressed with George Wilson’s powerful vocal range and super chilled stage manner.
The trio treated us to the performance of 10 tracks, notably including a brand new track just finished yesterday which was rapturously received. This bodes positively for the release of the debut Pollyman album which George reckons will be happening sometime early next year. A cracking little band to keep an eye out for!

Mi-Sex are a band who have doggedly triumphed over the tragedy of losing their charismatic front man and lead guitarist, and yet through all of this, including the absence tonight as well, of iconic bassist and all round nice guy Don Martin due to illness, tonight’s performance was still a standout… reverently paying homage – first and foremost – to the longevity of the band’s classic back catalogue of music.
Deservedly, the band has garnered an adoring fan base who religiously turn up to each and every show and tonight was no different… many familiar faces were here again tonight to cheer their heroes along… Steve Gilpin’s spirit was still very much in the house and early on in the evening, respectful homage was paid… Steve Balbi, veteran frontman, astutely avoids emulating his predecessor, instead inhabiting those few metres at stage centre with his own brand of frontman magic.
The evening’s setlist was truly career spanning – with inclusions from all of their studio albums and the added bonus of a couple of kicking new compositions going to show the band have lost none of their creativity over the years.
If you get the chance to catch a show by the boys on this celebratory tour, grab the opportunity with both hands. This band are so, so much more than just ‘Computer Games’…
